I purchased this combo kit in June 2005. It arrived in July. I used it 3 times and found it incapable of maintaining sufficient air pressure to drive the nails properly. I needed to use a hammer to drive the nail in all the way. In September, I took it to the nearest Hitachi authorized service center (Amazon doesn’t take returns) and they told me the nail gun was fine BUT the compressor had a defective regulator. The regulators were on back order. In December I called Hitachi USA in Norcross, Georgia and spoke with customer service. They told me they get those regulators from Fiat and they ‘would be arriving soon’. I called again in January 2006. Customer service told me that over 1000 regulators are in the ‘distribution channels’; all service centers should receive the regulators ‘real soon’. I called in February 2006, seems Fiat ‘used the wrong fitting’ and all of the regulators were being recalled and new ones were being made. I called again in March 2006. They told me again, ‘it should be real soon’. Hitachi should be able to provide better service than this.

I got this kit at home depot. Strangly, it was much cheaper than what shows here. Now that I am done with the project, I was very happy with the kit. I used it for intense sheathing & framing. The compressor is more powerful and more quite than the porter-cable pancake one I also have, the nailer is awsome and well built. As I went up to 3.25″ nails the nailer had trouble pushing them all the way when the head was not firmly against the piece, but shorter nails were no issue. It’s a good kit, especialy for the price ($350).
