This compressor is the spitting mirror image of the Hitachi EC-12 two-horse Oiled Twin Hot Dog four gallon, 65 pound Portable Compressor. I do not own this unit, but if it IS a twin to my Hitachi Hitachi EC12 14.5 Amp 2 Horsepower 4 Gallon Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor , this should be a very good compressor with 4+ SCFM @ 90 psi. My question of this unit, as on the Hitachi, is to locate the check valve body and learn how to replace the check valve poppet, a neoprene piece that seals the pressure in the tank so that it does not pressurize the outlet of the pump after it shuts down. That pressure would prevent the restart of the pump and result in blown breakers. The Hitachi poppets can be obtained for about $7, and they harden with stress & air pollution and can result in the tank mysteriously draining the air on shutdown after about 4 or 5 years. (I searched online & found IR DD2T2 check valve assembly for $48–unknown if rebuildable–suggest you check locally for parts.) I hope my experience elsewhere can help someone here. I also use a simple 2 gal auxiliary remote airtank on a 3/8″ X 50-to-100 ft hose so I don’t have to carry the compressor and use long extension cords.

After researching compressors in this price range to death (mid-upper $200s), I found this to be the best overall package on the market. I had to deal with Makita Customer Svc once trying to find a certain Makita product to buy, and they were so arrogant and condescending on the phone that I ruled out the excellent MAC2400. I’m not giving my money to a company that has such poor cust serv reps, at least in my experience. This Ingersoll unit is not too noisy, and seems to be of very good build quality. It is an oil-lubed machine, which for long term durability is better from what all my research indicated vs. oil free. The 100% duty cycle is a rare find in this price category…most competitors won’t even advertise their cycle out of shame, but usually 50% or if you’re lucky 75%. You can waste a lot of time comparing compressors, instead do yourself a favor and buy this one and get to work.

I received it brand new on June 12, 2009, checked the oil and turned it on. It compressed fast and I let it stand without connecting any hoses to check for leaks, as I could hear sound between the pump and the tanks. Sure enough, within minutes the pump came on. Called Ingersoll, they gave me a number and address for a local local repair shop, yet to take it there. Disconnected from the power source and let it stand over night. By early next morning, it dropped from 125 psi to under 20. Disappointed by IR?? Yes!!!! Home Depot would have been better.

Update, June 22. Took it to the repair shop on Monday, June 15. It took them until Friday 4:00 p.m. to call me that they tightened some connectors and sealed other joints. Picked it up before 5 p.m. Compressed it to 125 psi. By 6:30 a.m. on Saturday it was down to 40 psi. Called the shop and Ingersoll. The shop said to take it back to them. I’ll post an update after the second visit to the shop.

This is the first air compressor I have ever purchased for home use. I have worked with air compressors for over 30 years at my job and Ingersoll Rand is a very trusted name in the business.
The compressor arrived and I noticed right away that the brass fitting that connected the regulator to the top tank was snapped clean off at the threads.
I immediately contacted Amazon about this and within a few hours had a reply from them. They informed me that I could receive a replacement or a refund for the item. I chose to receive a replacement unit. Within four working days I had the replacement unit and I had yet to send back the broken unit. (Which I did the next day with free return shipping)
The replacement unit arrived in perfect condition and after checking the oil and putting in the dip stick, it fired right up. I have used it to put air in my car and truck tires, but I am sure I will find more uses for it.
As for being loud, it is a compressor but I do not feel it is overly noisy. It does loose pressure over time, but this is not a problem as I do not keep it pressured up when not in use. I would think that a little tightening of fittings would solve this. I also plan on later date to change the brass fitting into the top tank to a steel fitting.
I also like the fact it has a 2HP motor when all the others I looked at were less HP.
Overall, a Great Price for a Great Compressor!
Also, I am impressed with Amazon.com in that they replied to me quickly and after making my choice they sent me an email with a return label for me to print out so that the return shipping was free. They handled this problem quickly and professionally. Five stars to Amazon.com as well!

I bought a Kobalt 60 gallon 13 cfm compressor about 2 years ago and recently I started having problems with the pulley system and just chose to get something new instead of trying to mill/shim the pulleys on the Kobalt. I am a rookie to woodworking but I have made a few cabinets and to be honest unless you are spraying or using sanders heavily there is no reason to invest in a big 60 gallon best that first off costs more at purchase and to use (230volt 30 amp) and second you will be spending money to fill up a 60 gallon tank when you actually only need 3-4 gallons. I got this for [...] bucks shipped from Amazon and I love this compressor it comes with break in oil inside and also comes with a bottle of oil for use after the 20 day break in. As far as loud goes I have owned oiless and let me tell you that it is night and day between the 2. It is about as loud as my Kobalt belt driven which to me isnt quite bad for a small compressor that gives you portablity and no need for 230volt plugs. Bottom line its 100 percent duty cycle and cheap for anything with the IR name on it. Buy it now you wont regret it.

I had bought an Ingersoll Rand oilless air compressor with 20 gallon tank >25 years ago. Well used on the shop/farm/construction until the piston connecting rod broke. Got my moneys worth and then some. Hadn’t got around to throwing it away maybe salvaging the tank when I got a recall notice from IR for tank safety. They picked up the old compressor and let me buy an DD2T2 for $100 including shipping or or refund. Have used DD2T2 now for 4 years. Its rugged, powerfull, quite for an air compressor and very well made. Easily out performed the larger compressor it replaced. A company standing behind their products is rare these days. Tools are an investment, good tools cost money and I have got many good returns via Ingersoll Rand air compressors. Good company great portable air compressor.
